Axolotls - Follow the Eggs, Hatchlings and Juveniles

Postby gordonuk » Sun Feb 20, 2011 1:16 am

I bought myself some eggs online and they were delivered on thursday. The eggs were layed on 14th Feb 2011.

I received the eggs and they are 4 days old so will post images of the development of them.

Day 4: The embryos at 82 hours old. The embryos are neurulating and clearly developing well.

Will be following this with the same interest as the others, what do you plan to do with them?

Out of the 32 eggs that seem to be forming well and if they survive only plan on keeping 2 or 3 of them as a maximum, the rest i will sell if anyone wants the babbies.(not sure wht you call them as its not a fish so fry is not appropriate and its not a lizard so its not a hatchling so its an inbetweener)

Its amazing watching nature develop right in front of your eyes. If I had time i would have set up a timelapse on them. Hopefully by tomorrow the start of the gills will be visible to the eye.

Day 8

Postby gordonuk » Tue Feb 22, 2011 5:21 pm

Day 8: 178 hours old. The gills have developed so that they are easily visible to the naked eye on the final photo. The head of each axolotl is beginning to widen.

I am quite surprised at how small they are. I find watching them grow fascinating through your pictures so can imagine how you feel.
