20L Betta Tank

Postby Jackolas » Sun May 30, 2010 11:05 pm

this is the journal about my second tank.

Today I went to a fish shop close to us in Northampton and i saw a lovely male Betta. Sadly we had no where to put him :jel:
So I ended up buying some more plants and a nice looking peice of drift wood. This visit to the shop gave me the push I needed to set up the tank at last!
So when I got home from work I unpacked the tank and filled it with the tank water from the Barbs old tank (before we got the Biorb). I also re used some of the white substrate in there, although I am tempted by some of the really fine black stuff. I wont be adding any fish for a while as I dont have a heater yet but I just thought it would be good to let the water cycle properly and will probably add an apple snail or two soon.
The bulb that came with the tank seems really bright and blue for the size of the tank. Are there more natural coloured bulbs available?
Also the anubius in the bottom is just there while the new bogwood soaks. After this Im going to tie it onto the wood and put it in the orb.
Let me know what you think

May look better if you tie the Anubias to one of the pebbles and place it at the back, far right corner, with the rest of the pebbles in front of it, leaving the centre open. Make sure the rhizome is not buried in that pot or it will rot.

Its only in there for the moment. Im going to tie it to some wood once it has finished soaking and put it in the biorb. I just put it there for now to keep it happy.

UPDATE--- 1--6-10

Hi all,
I have returned from a very stressful trip to IKea and have a stick of lucky bamboo. I cut it to the right size and have planted it into the substrate in the tank. Also taken some weed from the orb and put the teeny tiny moss balls in. No fish for a month or so until I can judge how the bamboo is doing.
Still think the bulb is horrible!

The bulb would look great with a black or blue backing on tank... :cla:

Does bamboo grow under water? I know it likes a good soaking now and again but not sure about permanently submerged.

From all the research I have done it seems it thrives as long as the leaves are above water. Which they are in here.

I will be interested to watch its progress as it looks quite good in water.

Yeah it looks really nice. Im just trying to think of simple ways of reducing the water current even more. Im thinking a wall o fthis stuff around the filter/heater will look awesome

I would keep an eye on the bamboo rotting and polluting your tank.
