Built my own fish tank need help

Postby MaxHayhurst » Sat May 24, 2014 6:11 pm

Hey I'm Max...

I'm brand new to the fish tank world. Decided to build my own tank. its 4ft by 1ft but 1.5ft tall, and its 8mm thick glass

So i built it after following a load of guides online on how to do it. I tried it out, so filled it with water, and it held which i was surprised by.

Only problem i have is the lengths of the tank are bowing slightly about 1cm outwards when i fill it.

Ive seen different types of supports for the tank, i basically came on here for some advice what sort of bracing would you suggest.

I like the idea of euro bracing so far... but ive seen two types of it so far, with the glass supports on the front and back only and going round the entire top rim...

any advice...

Hello Max and welcome. Front and back with a central bar is what I would use. The depth is what's causing it to bow slightly.

Thanks for the speedy reply!

I know I need to add support I don't really like the idea of bars in the middle going across..

I may try 2 bars along the inside front and back...

What is the glass thickness? If you decide on putting a piece front and back, make sure it is at least 6mm.
