Help on setting up new tank

Hi

In the next couple of weeks I'm going to be upgrading my tank to a larger one, but I was just wondering, currently i have a sand\gravel substrate (the sand\gravel is the all pond solutions aquarium sand 0.8mm to 1mm to be exact) it's only been in the curent tank for about 2 months now, would it be safe to transfer it to the new tank and use it as a bottom layer with some new sand as a top layer or am I best just buying new sand\gravel?

I feel that it's just a waste of money throwing the old sand since its not that old, also what would be the best way to clean a filer, as I've got a stingray filter and want to transfer that however that seems to be covered in what looks like brown algae and don't want the algae transferring to the new tank.

Many thanks

Chris

Hi Chris and welcome to the forum.
Yes you can re-use your sand, just put it in a bucket and rinse it before adding to the new tank.
When it comes to your filter, get a bucket of old tank water and use a new non scratch kitchen sponge to clean it in the bucket. For the sponges inside again use old tank water. Never clean your filter under the tap always use old tank water as that way you do not kill off the good bacteria needed to keep the tank healthy.

Hello Chris

Welcome to the forum.

What sort of tank will the new one be?
