Puffer Fish in Community tank.

Postby Katfish » Thu Apr 26, 2012 10:07 am

I have been looking into keeping a puffer fish in a community tank
Most things I have read have said to keep them on there own etc.

But yesterday Blowfish put up a vid of a massive puffer fish in with neons and other fish the puffer fish took no notice of the neons etc.

Is this a 1 in a million thing or is there a puffer that can go in with other fish?

Puffers can go with other fish but the fish have to be chosen carefully!
The puffer in the vid doesnt bother them cause they are too small and fast....and he is huge!!
The main problem is that puffers have teeth and are very curious n hungry so end up nipping/eating slower easy targets.....so no guppies, fighters, angels, plecos or other bottom dwellers that sit for any period of time.....shrimps,snails....any inverts are a no no ...its their natural diet!
Barbs work quite well,as do danios, cardinals, rummynoses etc...but you may still get the odd attack or nipped fin!!
Also depends on the species of puffer you like some are mega aggressive, some not so much.... :ok:

Figure8s can live in either or, some claim they should only ever be kept in freshwater others keep them in brackish, both seem to do well.
